Job Summary

Rockwell Collins is currently seeking qualified candidates for experienced engineers in our Government Systems Flight Management Applications department. Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Flight Management Applications provides global airspace access and mission planning capabilities for a variety military and civilian aircraft. Using all the aircraft’s available navigation sensors and databases, Flight Management Applications provides real time information and solutions to the pilots, giving them unprecedented ability to execute their missions throughout the world.

This specific role is for a Sr. Systems Engineering position on the GS FMS team in the Flight Management Applications department. This team is responsible for the development of software that provides flight planning, guidance and navigation capabilities for both military- and civil-certified aircraft. The position would include technical leadership while also being responsible for meeting cost and schedule expectations associated with development. It also requires close support and communication with teams across the government systems and commercial systems organizations, as well as external customers.

This individual must have design and development experience in system and software engineering. Demonstrated success in a team environment is critical as this individual would be working an AGILE development environment with other engineers in cross functional teams.

  • Hands-on experience with avionics and flight deck controls is preferred.

  • Defense or Aerospace industry experience is preferred.

  • Certification experience with avionics, specifically DO-178B/C and ARP4754A is also preferred.

Job Responsibilities

Other responsibilities and job requirements include

  • Experience with systems and software tools (DOORS, Python, ADA, C, Matlab, JAMA)

  • Experience interacting with domestic and international partners

  • Time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work

  • Basics of risk management (identify, quantify, and mitigate risks)

  • Effective communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal)

  • Scope management

  • Perform cost/benefit analysis

  • Familiarity with the AGILE development process

  • Familiarity with Flight Controls, Flight Management Applications, and Flight Management Products

  • Familiarly with aerospace and avionics

  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international <10%)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (US Citizenship required)
