Job Description

The IT Professional II, under general direction, performs advanced troubleshooting, analysis, and problem-solving for unit-level support in multiple technical fields. This position is a member of the Division of Finance and Operation’s IT Services department, serving in a customer facing support role as part of our helpdesk. While day to day operations involve answering customer requests; duties also include participating in building workstation images, managing application servers and printers, and supporting an SCCM instance. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented person capable of consistently delivering excellent customer service while also possessing an interest in developing their technical skills in server administration using Microsoft products such as PowerShell and GPO management. Our team places a high value on the ability to automate processes and remotely manage workstations, and as such we are seeking an additional candidate with these interests and skills to join our team.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of experience in systems administration, service delivery, or hardware/software installation and maintenance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Microsoft Active Directory experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Support customers as a member of the Helpdesk support team answering support incidents via phone calls, email, or walk-up requests. Utilize online ticketing system to record actions and communicate with customers. Perform remote assistance for customers in order to address software or hardware configuration requests. Perform desk side or in-person visits when necessary to achieve optimum results. Assist in analyzing support metrics with admin team. Participate in managing computing inventory for entire Division. May direct the efforts of one or more individuals.

  • Install, upgrade, and configure workstation and server software. - Provide technical guidance and support to junior employees on technical issues and procedures. - Investigate, recommend and assists customers with software and hardware purchases. Develop system logic and configuration. Conduct basic performance analyses. Troubleshoot and repair hardware and software for servers and workstations. Troubleshoot routine network problems.

  • Provide training to customers on the use of applications and/or various specialized software applications. Research problems and recommend solutions for customers. Provide technical oversight and training on the development of expertise on software applications. Provide technical oversight and training in customer problem tracking. Advise and educate customers on computing security policies and procedures. Provide technical guidance for the development and maintenance of printed and web based software application information for customer use. Survey complex new technologies and prepare executive summaries. May provide routine hardware operation and maintenance, and software installation/maintenance on various operating systems. May develop adhoc programs for customers. Develop IT plans for customers to achieve overall goals.

  • Review, design, code, debug and test, complex programs, program modifications, or applications. Develop specifications based on input from customers. Create complex design documents. Assist project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements. Evaluate software products and programming languages to determine their applicability to a specific system and/or project.

  • Confer with users to review project plans and schedules, secure approval of test results and discuss problems or concerns. Review and analyze software documentation and production results to facilitate problem resolution. Core Duties: May coordinate the technical activities of a small project team. Provide more advanced technical support for the customer. Assist and mentor other employees in resolving various issues. Participate with management personnel in planning, direction, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives. May produce reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports. Participate in change management and problem tracking.

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and controlling the activities related to database systems in multi-platform environments. Evaluate software products and programming languages to determine their applicability to a specific system and/or project. Manage the physical descriptions of database components. Resolve performance problems and recover from system outages. Develop and document security procedures and data standards. Establish contacts with vendors for software support and problem resolution. Monitor the performance of database systems. Help resolve performance problems and recover from system outages. Provide resource estimates and progress reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
