As a senior-level communication public affairs communicator, this position will serve a business segment in support of an executive officer, vice presidents, department director(s), global business process owner(s) and/or high level strategic enterprise initiative(s)/project(s) within that segment. This role will develop and implement media and communication strategies in direct response to business needs and in support of the enterprise strategy.

The Public Affairs Sr. Communicator is part of the Enterprise Communications team, a global communications team focused on reinforcing Caterpillar’s strategy. This position will directly support strategic internal and external communication strategies for Caterpillar’s Resource Industries segment. The role is located in Deerfield, Illinois.

Decisions made by this position are diverse with higher risk issues. Challenges include exceeding expectations in delivering results, considering alternative courses of actions, and making timely decisions.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within the company to create and execute on media strategies for the Resource Industries business segment; Handle proactive and reactive media inquiries working with corporate and global media teams.

  • Coordinate with Caterpillar’s trade press teams for segment-specific announcements and strategies.

  • Engage with both traditional and non-traditional media outlets to advance Caterpillar’s Resource Industries core messaging; Pitch stories, prepare briefing materials and draft press releases and statements.

  • Contribute to development of Resource Industries officer communications and public relations plans.

  • Identify public affairs opportunities for the business segment.

  • Develop and support web site content, internal strategic communications, videos/streaming media, employee or leader meetings, and presentations.Support crisis communications for business clients.

  • Manage large, complex external-facing projects through completion under tight deadlines.

  • Conduct research for relevant topics and stay current on company and industry initiatives.

  • Stay deeply connected to media coverage of topical issues in Resource Industries to advise leaders on the pulse of conversations.

  • Perform other related communications duties as assigned.

The position manages the completion of its own work assignments. Work is often done independently while assessing risks and recommending solutions and implementing the best course of action. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work often involves complex or high impact situations and is reviewed after completion.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experiencein communications and public and/or media affairs.

  • Excellent writer ableto persuade and educate diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong projectmanagement skills.

  • Collaborative growthmindset and team player.

  • Ability to managemultiple projects simultaneously while paying close attention to tacticaldetails (task-oriented executer).

  • Sense of urgency, abilityto quickly prioritize and excellent interpersonal skills with all levels of theorganization.

Preferred:

  • Experiencein mining, technology or heavy industrial industries
