Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Facilities Services Department reports to the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for the planning, repair, renovation and maintenance of all NCCU facilities which involves housekeeping services.

Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and develop the overall operation of the housekeeping department assuring the highest degree of quality services are provided to the University community. The position will develop and implement a plan for each facility to reduce the soiling of the facility, i.e. determine the type, location, placement, and maintenance of walk-off mats, trash receptacles, etc. Investigates the needs and determines appropriate chemicals, tools, and supplies needed for safely and productively complete work. Performs staffing analysis based on industry guidelines. Participates in the development of product specifications and selection of acceptable product brands; instructs employees in the correct use, storage, and care of chemicals, tools and equipment; provides for the ordering, distribution, and storage of chemicals, tools and equipment; schedules the preventive maintenance and safety checks for tolls and equipment. Position will analyze cost of cleaning facilities and prepares and submits proposed annual operating budget for labor, supplies, equipment repair and replacement, training, travel, etc.; ensures that expenditures are within budget. Responsible for the recycling program including shredding; maintains computerized record of inventories for spaces to be cleaned. Maintains record of chemical and supply usage, work schedules, safety reports, accident investigations, training, key control, cost and charge-back information; conducts pre-event inspections of all rooms prior to special event. Supervise employees in accordance with State and University policies, including but not limited to, recruitment, termination, discipline, and performance evaluation. Interact with University administrators, faculty, and staff to resolve housekeeping, grounds and vehicle related issues. In addition this position will supervise B.E.S Technician staff serving the 12 Resident Life Buildings, and the 70 other campus buildings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of Housekeeping operations and management, purchasing, staffing, and budgetary policies and procedures; knowledge of CMMS; knowledge of preparing an annual budget; knowledge of planning, directing, and implementing an effective housekeeping program; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Applications; ability to recommend, plan, and direct training programs; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a higher education environment.

Minimum Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalency and four years of experience in the area of assignment, of which two years are supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require Certification or Eligibility For Certification.
