Job Description:

The Business Systems Consultant will use his/her knowledge of business objectives, processes, products, and technology and quality concepts to:

  • Plan and manage business requirement effort required on projects or small enhancements

  • Partner with business and technology teams to deliver innovative and creative quality solutions

  • Be part of a dynamic team of professionals in a highly collaborative environment

  • Participate as a member of project teams to implement business solutions and applications

Main Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage the development of quality Business Systems Analyst (BSA) deliverables for small to complex projects for Sun Life Financials’ Individual line of business.

  • Consult as a business domain or system application expert (knowledge of application suite and system architecture). Recognize and escalate issues / gaps / collisions that impact across projects and domains

  • Partner with our Individual business partners, vendors, leaders, application development and testing teams to ensure quality solutions that meet the needs and expectations of our business partners and clients

  • Lead, motivate, support, and coach project team members and peers by providing guidance that is appropriate for their knowledge and skill level

  • Champion the BSA role by actively leading and contributing to continuous improvements within the practice

Competencies:

  • A BSA with strong knowledge and experience using business analysis principles and industry best practices (e.g. business process modeling, conceptual data modeling) and tools

  • Able to represent and communicate the business needs throughout the life of the initiative.

  • Must possess effective time management and organization skills with the ability to use diplomacy, judgement, negotiation and persuasion to secure agreement and co-operation.

  • Must have the ability to lead multiple initiatives concurrently.

  • Ability to identify and communicate high level solutions to address the technical needs of our business partners to our design team

  • Must possess the ability to work with Agile teams and scrum framework.

Technical Skills:

  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of BSA experience

  • Solid understanding of systems development lifecycle

  • Flexibility to operate within an Iterative, Agile or Waterfall project methodologies

  • Comprehension of data and database concepts including: ability to interpret data dictionaries, creation and interpretation of Entity Relationship Diagrams, working knowledge of data maps, data diagrams/structure

  • Experience with Third Party vendors

  • Experience working in a matrix environment, onshore/offshore IT model

  • Experience with Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Knowledge on how to effectively collect and present estimate of effort for deliverables

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Individual Wealth and Insurance business domains

  • Experience with Third Party vendors

  • Understanding of Web Services, ESP, APIs at a conceptual level

  • CCBA or CBAP designation or working towards designation

  • Understands Software Quality Assurance testing concepts and techniques

  • Proficient with MS Office suite of products
